HERE'S A 'HOW TO' ORIENTATION TO DRIP IRRIGATION

May 17, 2002 – If you'd like to learn how to design, set up and maintain a drip irrigation system, attend a free University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service workshop on the subject Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cruz Bay.
The workshop will be repeated on May 26 on the UVI St. Thomas campus, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the New House building on the main road up to the library.
While drip irrigation may involve investing in some equipment, it will save you water.
"Your plants are going to look a lot better, especially in the dry times," said Albion George, a CES agriculture assistant. He said that using a hose can waste water, since it can blow away as you water. A drip irrigation system puts the water directly onto the plant roots.
George said the system can be used to water ornamental plants, fruits and vegetables. "With a drip system and a timer, you can't go wrong," he said. For more information, call 693-1080.
