Old and New Friends Gather for a Night of Culinary Delight

0

The Pie Whole’s second annual Belgian Beer Experience on Saturday, Jan. 30, lived up to everyone’s expectations. The culinary team matched with a fantastic pairing of Belgian beers was the best of its kind event that I have attended.

Food for the event began at 7:30 p.m. Prior to starting the evening, we all had tasted some of the Belgian beers offered and discussed with old friends and introduced ourselves to new friends. This was our first time attending this event and we had learned from others that had attended the first one that the evening was to be a three-hour event that would be remembered.
The culinary masterpieces were served while listening to a brief introduction to each of the Belgian beer selections. And just as one would expect in a fine wine tasting, each of the selections were perfectly matched to all five courses for the evening.
I cannot speak for others, but the clear winner for the night was the fourth course: Duck leg confit with fennel risotto, and pistachio brown butter matched with Kapittel Watou Pater beer — the most amazing duck, both in taste and presentation. My only recommendation would be in not making us wait for a full year until the next event.
