V.I. Sustainable Farm Institute Holds Annual Bush Skills Weekend

This year’s Bush Skills, featuring Veronica Gordon, Snow Bear, Jo Sheer, special guest Chef Theo Gumbs and more instructors who can teach participants empowering skills and knowledge to survive and thrive in nature. Bush Skills will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 3-4. Come just for a day or enjoy the whole weekend at Ridge to Reef Farm/Virgin Island Sustainable Farm Institute. Saturday, March 3 – Herbalism, Hunting, and Gathering: Tracking, pond fishing, primitive weapons, gathering wild plants and cultivated plants for foods and medicines, making coconut products
Sunday, March 4 – Bush Chef: How to grow and prepare an all-natural island feast in an all-morning bush cook out. Everyone joins a bush chef and combines all the skills from the weekend such as fire, fibers, calabash craft, and wild edibles into a day that ends in an afternoon feast.
The weekend will feature teachers Veronica Gordon, Jo the Palm Weaver, Snow Bear, Angletta Pascal, Shelli Brin, Nate Olive, Matt and Carmen Corradino, and others. Choose from a list of morning and afternoon workshops each day, lunch included ($45 for adults, $20 for 16 and under with supervision). Please bring your own water bottle and folding chair, and dress comfortably for the outdoors.
