VING Honor Guard to Train on Military Funeral Honors

0

The Virgin Islands National Guard Honor Guard will conduct an 80-hour course on military funeral honors from Sept. 3-14 at the Lt. Col. Lionel A. Jackson Readiness Center.
Members of the VING Honor Guard will train on tasks such as six man flag fold sequence, firing party, uniform preparation and basic drill and ceremony.
The culmination of the training will be a casket sequence and firing party final test from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 14, which will encompass everything learned over the 80-hour course. After lunch, a small graduation will be held at 2 p.m.
Military funeral honors have been rendered to numerous military personnel from the Virgin Islands, and most prominently to former governor Alexander A. Farrelly in 2002.
For more information on the event, contact Sgt. Leon Perkins, the military funeral honors coordinator, at 712-8035.
