UVI Alumni Association Wins HBCU National Alumni Association of the Year Award The University of the Virgin Islands has received the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) National Alumni Association of the Year Award. The award was given in recognition of the 223 percent increase in its alumni giving rate recorded in 2012 and the national exposure the University received as a result of this accomplishment. UVI President Dr. David Hall documented the achievement in an article titled “Virgin Islands Miracle,” which was featured in the Huffington Post, the HBCU Digest, the Tom Joyner Foundation website, HBCU Connect and an Academic Impressions case study. The award was presented at the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy’s Third Annual HBCU Awards, held Friday, June 28, at Jackson State University, in Mississippi. Accepting the award for UVI were Alumni Trustee Marthious Clavier, Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs Linda I. Smith, and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dionne Jackson.
