Rotary Club of St. Thomas Hosts Holiday Gift-Giving for Boys & Girls Club

Santa visits the Boys & Girls Club at Oswald Harris Court Christmas came early to the Boys & Girls Club at Oswald Harris Court, St. Thomas. Santa, a.k.a. Rotarian Paul Davis, delivered gifts to 46 elementary grade and high school students during a holiday party on Tuesday, Dec. 17, afternoon. The presents were donated by members of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas as well as the public, who donated gifts in drop-off sites at the Bluebeard’s Castle Hotel and the Guardian Insurance office located at Tutu Park Mall. This holiday celebration has become an annual tradition for both the Rotarians and the club’s kids.
“This gift-giving is in recognition of all the Boys & Girls Club do for the kids in the community,” said Sue Boland, club past president who heads up the gift collection, delivery and presentation.
This year, Santa’s sack of goodies was extra bountiful. Sandy Castorena, the Rotary Club of St. Thomas’ fundraising chair, was so inspired by her donation of two bicycles at last year’s event that she passed along that good feeling to close friends Chris and Mary Carr of Seabrook, Texas. The couple responded in kind this year with a monetary donation sufficient to purchase 18 bicycles. What’s more, the Carr’s daughter and son-in-law, Cassy and Bradley Danek, just happened to be honeymooning on St. Thomas and were able to attend the bicycle presentation. Each student was also given a bicycle helmet.
“The students have been working hard all year in their school work and in other areas,” explains Jackie Brown, director of the St. Thomas Boys & Girls Club. “This is a nice reward for them.”
The Rotary Club of St. Thomas members, including Santa, will deliver toys to the Nana Baby Children’s Home on Friday.
