Lt. Gov. Gregory R. Francis reminds Virgin Islands veterans that they are eligible for reduced fares when traveling to Puerto Rico for medical purposes. Francis, a military veteran and former director of the Office of Veterans Affairs, has worked with Seaborne airline executives to enable veterans to receive discounted fares when traveling to the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico for treatment. Active members of the American Legion are also eligible for the discounted rate, which is $70 one way.
Francis is committed to exploring ways to assist the veteran community. “Many of our veterans travel to the VA Hospital in Puerto Rico for medical appointments. This cost has proven burdensome to many throughout the veteran community,” he said. “The service, sacrifices and challenges of our veteran’s community remain relevant beyond the annual Veterans Day commemoration. As a community, it is imperative that we do all that we can to honor the service of our fellow Virgin Islanders and seek meaningful ways to provide support.”
According to Francis, veterans and Legionnaires will have to present identification and proof of their appointment with the Veterans Administration to receive the special rates.
He commends Gary Foss, president and CEO of Seaborne Airlines for his commitment to support local veterans by providing the discounted fares.
