The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority will commence work on the splicing of a new fiber optic cable along the route of St. Croix underground Feeder No. 8 on Saturday, March 1. The new fiber optic cable will connect the recently upgraded 69/25kV Estate Richmond substation through a 100 percent underground communication duct bank along the Feeder No. 8 route to the planned Midland substation presently in the construction phase.
Termination begins on Route 75 in the vicinity of the Juanita Gardine Elementary School and continues westward to the vicinity of Spanish Town (Estate Profit). During the splicing phase, WAPA crews will de-water manholes and splice fibers to the substation.
No traffic interruptions are anticipated, but motorists are asked to please proceed with caution in construction areas due to men working on the shoulder of the road, and to follow traffic directions for the safety of crews, pedestrians and other drivers. There will be no service interruptions as a result of this work being completed.
The installation of the fiber optic line is funded by WAPA’s internal funds. The authority looks forward to serving the public more reliably through these infrastructure enhancement projects.
