Claim Deadline Fast Approaching for Former Triangle Workers

0

The V.I. Labor Department is warning former Triangle Construction employees that Feb. 12 is the deadline to file for severance through last year’s settlement with the territory.

In late December, the V.I. Government reached a settlement with former Hovensa contractor over alleged violations of the territory’s plant closing law and a portion of claims for severance pay, according to Government House.

In 2011, the V.I. Government brought suit against Triangle for alleged violations of the Virgin Islands Plant Closing Act. This week the government and Triangle were able to amicably come to a resolution, according to Government House.

In part, the government and Triangle have been able to settle some former Triangle employees’ eligibility for severance.

But the settlement requires arbitration to resolve whether other former Triangle employees are entitled to severance pay under the VIPCA. The Labor Department has already begun notifying the affected former Triangle employees.

The remaining former Triangle Employees who need to come into the St. Croix office of the Virgin Islands Department of Labor and/or file a claim before the deadline of February 12 include:

– Alfred Ashe Jr.
– Rudy F. Duff
– Mark Eugene
– Charles Haynes III
– Malcolm Maccow
– Luis Rivera
– Carlos Rosas
– Luis Saldana
– and Delroy Thomas.

The VIDOL office is located at 4KA Sion Farm, Christiansted, St. Croix. Contacted the Office of the Commissioner at (340) 773-1994 ext. 2105 or 2168.
