James Isherwood Jr., 88, Died Sept. 2

Sept. 12, 2004 – James Hiram Isherwood Jr., 88, of St. Croix died Sept. 2 on St. Croix.
A memorial service and a celebration of life gathering have been held.
He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Bessey, Julie San Martin; sons, Jay and Richard Isherwood; dauaghters-in-law, Brenda and Joanna Isherwood; sons-in-law, Joe Bessey and Joe San Martin; several grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Isherwood; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie, in 2001. They had been married 57 years.
He practiced law on St. Croix for more than 45 years, and several former partners have become judges and U.S. attorneys. He was a past president of the V.I. Bar Association, and served on government boards, including the V.I. Port Authority and the V.I. Industrial Development Commission. He was active in the legal arena nationally and internationally as well.
Gov. Charles W. Turnbull issued condolences. Attorney Isherwood, he said, "was a man recognized for superlatively high standards and integrity. The 45 years that he resided on St. Croix were meaningful and community oriented."
The governor also noted his distinguished military service record during World War II, and mentioned his services to several Constitutional Conventions.
