May 4, 2004 – A funeral service for Eladia Parrilla, who was better known as "Dona Laya" will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6 at the Iglesia de Alpha y Omega in Estate Strawberry.
Parrilla died at her home May 3. She was 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Acosta and Felix Ortiz, her husband, Angel Parilla, three sons Angel, Enrique and Jose, her granddaughter Nancy and her brother, Jose Ortiz.
She is survived by two sons, Israel and Agnel Luis, two daughters, Luz D. Parilla and Carmen M. Parrilla. She is also survived by her brother Ramon Ortiz and six sisters, Herminia, Ortencia, Crucita, Carmen, Jennie & Flor Ortiz. Parrilla leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
The first viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 at the Thomas/Hyll Memorial Chapel. The second viewing will be at 10 a.m. Thursday before the funeral service. Mrs. Parrilla will be interred at Kingshill Cemetery.
Arrangements have been made by the Thoma/Hyll Memorial Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services of St. Croix.
