FUNERAL IS DEC. 19 FOR EDITH QUETEL BRYAN

Dec. 18, 2003 — Edith Adina Quetel Bryan, 72, died Dec. 9 at Baptist Hospital, Miami, Fla.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the City Seventh Day Adventist Church, with burial to follow in Western Cemetery No. 2.
Bryan, born in St. Thomas on Jan. 19, 1932, was known as an educator and a community activist.
"Edith Quetel Bryan was an avid advocate for many community organizations that dealt with the plight of the homeless, the elderly and those less fortunate," said a condolence message from Gov. Charles W. Turnbull. "Her energy and commitment to the residents of the Lucinda Millin Home for the Aged was well known and appreciated."
After receiving her teaching credentials in New York City, she returned to serve as a teacher in the V.I. Education Department. She also was special assistant to the president of the 17th Legislature, Iver Stridiron.
She is survived by a son, Toussain Bryan; a daughter, Selah Bryan; brother, Alfred Quetel; sisters, Carmen Quetel George, Paula Quetel Dyer, Oulian Orica Quetel Whiting and Cassilda Quetel Roberts; five grandchildren; niece, Gloria Joseph; special counsin, Utah Francis Benjamin; and special friends, Berl Simmonds Samuel and Norma Jackson Simmonds.
