April 26, 2003 – Gospel recording artist/songwriter Aquannette Chinnery's debut solo gospel CD has been nominated for Top Gospel CD International for the Third Annual Hopeton Lewis Caribbean Gospel Music Awards. Her song, "Sweet," from the "Who Is Like Unto You?" CD, also has been nominated, for Top International Gospel Song of the Year.
The awards show will be held June 7 at the JFK Ramada Plaza Hotel in New York.
Chinnery was scheduled to sing as a guest artist before she received word of the nominations. When she learned of the honors, she said: "I was so blessed to receive these nominations and am honored, particularly because other nominees in the same categories as my nominations include well-known artists such as The Grace Thrillers, George Banton, Judy Mowatt (formerly of the I Threes, which was Bob Marley's backup group), Richie Stephens, and others."
"Who Is Like Unto You?" features contemporary, traditional and Caribbean gospel (reggae gospel and soca/calypso gospel). Chinnery co-wrote most of the songs on the CD with Loris Holland, who has also worked as a producer for artists such as Deniece Williams, Vickie Winans, Tramaine Hawkins and Bam Crawford's Purpose.
Chinnery's CD was released in December, and radio stations in the Virgin Islands, other Caribbean islands, the U.S. mainland and Canada are playing the CD. Chinnery has made international appearances in St. Maarten and Virgin Gorda and has been appearing throughout the Virgin Islands.
