Jan. 29, 2003 – From now on, anyone who ignores the parking meters in place along the waterfront by the Edward Wilmoth Blyden Marine Terminal will pay the price, and it's substantial.
Effective Wednesday, Port Authority enforcement officers are checking the parking area regularly from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
Any vehicle found parked at an expired meter will be booted or towed at the owner's expense, a cost of $125. For towed vehicles, there also is a $25-a-day storage fee.
"The meters have been there for about a year, but we didn't have enforcement personnel," Maria Walters of the Port Authority's Marine Division said Wednesday.
Parking at the metered spaces costs 25 cents per half hour, with a maximum of two hours allowed.
Motorists are not allowed to come back after two hours and put in four more quarters. "It's not long-term parking," Walters said. "It's for people doing business with the tenants."
And from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., no parking is allowed
