Aug. 19, 2002 – Hospital employees, local residents, members of various community organizations,including the FBI, physicians and even a senator or two turned out Saturday to help spruce up the Roy L. Schneider Hospital.
Thirteen teams were organized to paint, wax floors, wash walls and windows and clean the elevators, according to Rodney Miller, hospital chief executive officer.
Even the kids got into the act by washing ambulances.
"I was surprised that that many people came out to support the hospital," Miller said – 200 in all. Miller estimated that 60 percent were community members, while 40 percent were hospital employees.
Though a change in the look of the hospital was evident, even partway through the day, Miller said, " This was more about partnering with the community…to foster a team concept; let people know everyone has a hand in making the hospital better for the entire community."
Miller, who has been on the job since May, said he would like to see what was dubbed "Hospital Beautification Day" at least twice a year.
Some have suggested doing it quarterly, he said.
The beautification project "has brought us one step closer to becoming a world class care provider" something Miller has said is his vision for the hospital.
