June 12, 2002 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued June 10 includes these announcements:
Summer Session Began Monday
Welcome to all summer session students and faculty. UVI's summer session 2002 classes began June 10 on both campuses, and will continue through July 23.
"For Better, For Worse" Next Performances
The Caribbean Repertory Theatre Company's revival of David Edgecombe's comedy "For Better, For Worse" resumes performances June 14 through 17, and will continue on weekends through July 1. Tickets are $15, and are available on campus at the Reichhold Box Office (693-1559) and the UVI Bookstore, on St. Thomas at Krystal Gifts Galore, Modern Music and Parrot Fish, and on St. John at Connections.
UVI to Host Summer Programs
Along with the start of summer session, UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses will, in coming weeks, serve as host to more than 120 Virgin Islands middle and high school students participating in various summer programs.
On St. Thomas, this includes the Upward Bound summer residential program and the annual Summer Science Enrichment Academy. College students working as residential staff for the Upward Bound program were due on campus June 10, with the 55 student participants due to begin studies Monday, June 17. Another 50 high school students are expected to begin their Summer Science Enrichment sessions on Sunday, June 16. For details call Judy Roland-Fahie at 693-1232.
On St. Croix, 20 students from 7th and 8th grades will participate in the Junior Summer Science Enrichment Academy. Sessions will begin June 24 and continue through July 26. For details contact Dr. Michelle Peterson at 778-1620, ext. 3141.
Paiewonsky Library Seeks to Complete Newsletter Archives
UVI's Paiewonsky Library on the St. Thomas campus is seeking copies of back issues of divisional newsletters to fill out its collection. While some issues of the various division's newsletters are on file at the library, the library's goal is to archive complete sets of newsletters for all university divisions and departments. Please drop off or send spare copies of any division newsletter to the attention of Lybia Callwood. For more information call Callwood at 693-1364.
Extension Service Offers 4-H Summer Camp Program
Registration is under way, on a first-come, first-served basis, for UVI's Cooperative Extension Service 4-H Summer Camp Program. Camp sessions will run from June 24 through Aug. 2, with locations at local schools on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John, and at the UVI campus on St. Croix. Children ages five through 14 are eligible. A 50 percent discount is available to employees of UVI.
Spaces remain available on St. Croix. Register there at the UVI Research and Extension Center, Room 139, or call 692-4094 or 692-4087 for details. Although program spaces are already filled on St. Thomas and St. John, a waiting list is being kept if openings develop. For details call 693-1080.
St. Thomas Campus Snack Bar Open; Cafeteria to Reopen June 17
Beginning June 10 the snack bar in the Student Activities Center on the St. Thomas Campus will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The St. Thomas cafeteria is currently closed. Meal service at the cafeteria will resume on Monday, June 17.
