NEW MOON ECLIPSE
June 10, 2002 – The June 10 New Moon features an annular, "ring of fire" eclipse. A halo of sunlight shines out around the dark orb of the Moon, like the halo that surrounds the compassionate face of the Black Madonna. It will not be visible in the Virgin Islands or on the East Coast: the sun sets an hour too early to see it. But we'll all feel it. This New Moon eclipse fits into the powerful planetary opposition between Pluto and Saturn.
A solar eclipse means the nodes of the Moon are aligned with the New Moon, a time when the Fates step in. Those three ancient goddesses weave the tapestry of life. Clotho spins the yarn; Lachesis measures it; Atropos cuts it. These dark ladies are active during eclipses, especially when they are collaborating with their cousins: Saturn is often pictured as the god of Time with a scythe; Pluto, the god/dess of death, of rebirth yields the sword of truth that the spaciousness of life beyond the ego's fears.
The Moon's nodes that define eclipses are often called the Dragon Head and Tail. This eclipse is at the head. Imagine the ancient image of the serpent eating its own tail, the uroboros, representing the eternal cycles that repeat and spiral. An eclipse is a time when the serpent takes a breath, opening a gap to break out of the cycle.
FOCUS on OPTIONS with SATURN in GEMINI
In the sign of Gemini, the door opens onto a new adventure, a new way of thinking about things. If you've been reading my articles, it may seem that I keep saying this over and over. Because this is important right now! We have an exceptional opportunity to refocus our attention and manifest a new vision. SOMETHING needs to change, does it not? But not just anything. We are making important choices in the way we think. Taking time out from the swirl of mundane tasks is helpful. With Gemini, even a short break, a few deep breaths, freshen the energy and sparkle up the brain cells. Meditation and prayer bring us into a state of receptivity in which we welcome the spiritual light and intuitive guidance always pouring forth from the life force.
VISIONARY ASPIRATIONS of PLUTO in SAGITTARIUS
In his work on Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman reports on a portion of the brain called the amygdala, which gives almost instant response to experience, based on behavioral/ emotional memories, often fear-based. With mindful attention, we have a split second, he says, to change our habitual, automatic reaction. Watch what you are paying attention to in your day-to-day flow. Watch your reactions, and see if you can find a gap, a crack in the wall, to experiment with a new way of looking at things that makes you feel better. It's like magic! It takes directed will power, aligned with open-hearted desire to be in alignment with divine Will. For the highest good of all.
The SABIAN SYMBOL for the exact degree of this New Moon is:
A SELF-SERVICE CAFETERIA DISPLAYS ITS INVITING STEAM TABLES
What are you choosing from all the richness that life has to offer? An abundance of possibilities is at hand, if you open your mind to the alternate realities spoken of in ancient wisdom and modern science. In any case, the dragon is pushing us out the door. The old movie is over, say Saturn and Pluto, unless you want to watch the reruns. How boring, says Gemini, Been there, done that. There is something better out there, if we believe it is so. This is a new millennium, Pluto reminds us, use your imagination. The world goes on as it is because we believe in it. What other options are there? Just imagine …
