June 5, 2002 – The St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual "Battle of the Business Stars Volleyball Tournament" on June 23 at the Mark C. Marin Center on the Antilles School campus.
Organizer Priscilla Hintz said the event is a fund-raiser for the Chamber of Commerce but also a "fun raiser" for chamber members — "an opportunity for our business members to come together in a sports activity."
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. with up to 16 teams competing. Hintz said teams are to consist of six players plus alternates. There will be trophies for first and second place and for the "lucky losers."
The first business to sign up a team was the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort — a newcomer to the event, Hintz said. There are still openings, she said, with teams being accepted on a first-come basis.
Last year, about eight teams participated, she said. Lockhart Companies took first place, Knight Quality Stations was second, and the lucky losers were A.H. Riise.
The public is welcome to come out and watch the action, with free admission for all. Hinz said the cantina at the Marin Center will be open and serving pizza, hot dogs and beverages.
