OUTDOOR ADVENTURE WEEKS ON ST. CROIX

0

May 27, 2002 – The Saint Croix Environmental Association (SEA) is planning outdoor adventures right on St. Croix for young people ages 9-12. Three two-week summer sessions are offered: June 19-28, July 8-19, and July 22-Aug. 2.
Sessions are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants may be dropped off at the base camp at the Nature Conservancy's Estate Little Princess, no earlier than 7:30 a.m. There'll be a charge for late pickups after 2:30 p.m.
The adventures will be at such places as Salt River National Park, St. Croix Aquarium, Jack's and Isaac's Bays, Caledonia "Rainforest," Mt. Washington, Creque Dam and Buck Island's snorkeling trail.
Here's an opportunity for children to really "know" St. Croix: to hike, snorkel, and explore places perhaps they've only heard about. They'll be doing this with other children who share an interest in learning about Virgin Islands natural resources and history.
Once you or your child decides this is a summer place to be, get registered. Participants should sign up for one session only. Space is limited to 25 participants per session.
Participants must be able to swim, and will be required to take a swimming test the first day. Participants must provide their Social Security numbers before camp begins, for insurance purposes. They must have good walking shoes (sneaker-type) or hiking boots, wear bathing suits every day, bring a towel and plenty of drinking water and their own lunch.
For the complete rules and requirements or for other questions, contact Tysha St. Jules, education coordinator, at the SEA office at 773-1989.
The cost is $175 per session, and financial assistance is available. Bring proof of income to the SEA office at #3 Arawak Building, Gallows Bay, and fill out a financial aid form.
