BEG, BORROW, STEAL, BUT BUY LINDQVIST BEACH

Keeping in mind that our government is broke, we still hope the Turnbull administration will find a way to buy the Lindqvist Beach property that is now reportedly on the market for $3.5 million.
Heaven knows, the government has floated bonds for far less worthy projects. But if the administration can’t find a creative way to pull off the purchase, a philanthropic organization such as the Nature Conservancy needs to make the investment – and soon.
The last thing St. Thomas needs is another resort or high-end condominium development on the over-developed East End. Besides, between the Environmental Association of St. Thomas and the League of Women Voters, many of us will be in our graves before such a project ever gets permitted.
No, we say buy it and — ideally — let the Magens Bay Authority run it. Charge $1 per person and $1 per car to get in and regulate the traffic and the goings on. Right now it is a no man's land of crime and occasional parties. We’d like to see the parties continue, within reason, but the crime curbed.
Lindqvist Beach is a beautiful natural resource for the community. It should be protected, preserved and properly utilized, not developed.
