Jan. 20, 2002 – Cora L.E. Christian, M.D., M.P.H., of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, has been appointed to serve as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Legislation and Governmental Affairs for a three-year term beginning January 2002.
Dr. Christian, a board certified practicing family physician, has practiced medicine on St. Croix since 1971, according to an article on the website for Soka.Gakkai International, www.sgi.org.
Credited with the development of the Frederiksted Health Clinic, she was formerly medical director of HOVENSA and is presently medical director of the V.I. Medical Institute on St. Croix.
The medical specialty of family practice encompasses comprehensive, continuing health care for all age groups and both sexes, according to a release from Dr. Christian. Family physicians evaluate and treat the whole person, taking into account all the factors that can affect health and well-being genetics, family history, diet, mental health and chronic disease-management.
