Nov. 20, 2001 – The consolation matchups are Tuesday afternoon and evening, and the championship game — the University of Miami against Clemson — is Tuesday night in the men's division of the Paradise Jam 2001 NCAA basketball tournament at the University of the Virgin Islands
The game for fifth place began at 12:30 p.m. between the Morris Brown University Wolverines and the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. Both teams went into the game with an 0-2 record.
The contest for third place, between the LaSalle University Explorers and the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers, will start at 6:30 p.m., following the women's division game between the Dayton University Flyers and Florida State Seminoles, scheduled for 4 p.m. The LaSalle and UAB men's teams both have a 1-1 record for the tournament.
The championship game will close out the evening, starting at 8:45 p.m. The Miami Hurricanes and the Clemson Tigers both are unbeaten after two tournament games. The Hurricanes squeezed out a narrow two-point victory over the Blazers Monday evening.
Tickets good for all of today's and tonight's games are $10 general admission and $5 for students with I.D. They're available at the box office; seating is unreserved.
Paradise Jam 2001, which is taking place at the new UVI Sports and Fitness Center, has drawn the attention of two NBA teams, the Houston Rockets and the Miami Heat. Both have sent scouts to watch some of the high-profile college players participating in the tournament.
The tournament has been getting national media coverage — meaning the Virgin Islands has been getting national media exposure. The Miami Herald sent a reporter, and the Associated Press, ESPN and Fox Sports News are being fed reports by their representatives.
In addition, Clemson University, Dayton University, Florida State University, LaSalle University, the University of Alabama-Birmingham and the University of Miami are doing live radio broadcasts of their schools' games. All of the schools have traveled with their own media personnel.
