SWEET NOVEMBER – TEARS AND POPCORN

In this remake of the 1969 movie "Sweet November," the locale is moved from New York to San Francisco, but the poignance of the romantic story apparently gets left somewhere in the Midwest.
At least, that seems to be the reaction of most critics. The story has all the ingredients for a real, full hearted tear jerker you could sit unashamedly through, wiping tears off your popcorn.
Nelson Moss (Keanu Reeves) is a supercharged advertising executive too busy to slow down for fun. Sara Deever (Charlize Theron) is the free spirited soul he meets accidentally at that most romantic of all locals, the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Well Moss before too long, succumbs to Deever's eccentric charms and moves in with her for a month. Guess which one. The month is her idea to "rehabilitate" him, since he has been fired from his job and needs lessons in living.
But, there's a twist. Deever is carefree on the outside, but very ill inside.
Most of the critics objections are raised over Reeves' acting, or lack of it. One wag says, "Reeves has one facial expression: sheetrock." Though that may have worked in "Matrix," it fails here, he says. Theron, on the other hand is praised for her lighthearted performance.
The movie is rated PG-13 for sexual content and language, and directed by Pat O ' Connor. It is playing at market Square East.
