Raffles restaurant at Compass Point was ordered to close Friday until further notice by order of the Health Department. It was the second St. Thomas restaurant closing by the department in as many weeks.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Health Department Environmental Health Director Ethlyn Joseph said code violations found on the Raffles premises included roach infestation, food not properly protected from contamination, excessive grease and inadequate basic sanitation requirements.
Last week, Joseph ordered Mim's Seaside Bistro at the Watergate Villas on the East End closed for health code violations. A worker at Mim's involved in cleanup said Tuesdat he was hopeful the restaurant would be ready for reinspection Wednesday.
The owner of Raffles was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
