Charlotte Amalie High School and Peace Corps Elementary School students can finally mark their calendars for the last day of school. The high school's year will end on June 22 and Peace Corps students will go home for the summer on June 29.
All public school students in the territory will make up one lost day on Feb. 19, President's Day, according to a release from the Education Department.
Virgin Islands public schools were originally scheduled to resume classes on Aug. 28. However, due to construction delays, that date was pushed back in August to Sept. 11 for all public schools and then again to Sept. 18 for Peace Corps, Lockhart Elementary School and Charlotte Amalie High School.
Lockhart and Peace Corps did not start until Sept. 25. Education spokeswoman June Archibald said Lockhart School has opted to extend its school day to make up for the hours lost in September and therefore will end its school year on June 14. (See earlier story Most V.I. schools to extend calendar 1 week.)
For expanded information on the marking periods and details of the schedules of these school see Marking periods defined for 2 schools in the Schools section of St. Thomas Source.
The 18 days lost due to the teacher's strike will not be made up during the school year. Education is planning remedial and voluntary enrichment programs to be held throughout the summer, but as of last week, was still working out the details.
