PARADES, PROCLAMATION TO MARK VETERANS DAY

Veterans Day activities will take place Saturday, with parades on St. Croix and St. Thomas and other events.
On St. Croix, the Veterans Day parade will kick off at 9:30 a.m. from the Frederiksted Post Office and proceed down King Street to Buddhoe Park, where there will be a ceremonial program. The traditional donkey race will amble across Paul E. Joseph Ballpark.
St. Thomas's parade starts from Addelita Cancryn Junior High School at 3 p.m. and goes to Emancipation Garden. A ceremonial program will follow, and the V.I. National Guard family support group will hold activities around Emancipation Garden as well.
V.I. residents are urged to fly the U.S. flag and participate in events. Gov. Charles W. Turnbull issued a proclamation Thursday expressing gratitude to the veterans "whose sacrifices serve as constant reminders of the high price of liberty."
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War, which dragged on until an armistice was signed in July 1953.
