Divi Carina Bay Casino security manager Secundino Roman Cruz is now the casino’s new operations manager.
Cruz will now be responsible for security, facilities, environmental services, and receiving, along with newly created transportation department, said Bernie Burkholder, president and CEO of Treasure Bay VI Corp, the managing company for Divi Carina Bay Casino.
"Roman Cruz is an individual whose leadership skills have stood out during a difficult start-up period. He has excelled at everything we have asked of him here at Divi Carina Bay Casino. We are confident that he will succeed at this important new position as well," said Burkholder.
Cruz has been with Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino since opening last October.
"I was called by Divi exactly one day after retiring from the Police Department as chief of detective," Cruz said. "I was too young to retire and had just completed 30 years of service with the police. It was the perfect time for a new challenge when this exciting opportunity presented itself."
Cruz will oversee the casino’s new transportation department, which will work to provide convenient transportation for employees.
"Divi’’s first focus will be to help employees get to work, expanding to offer island visitors an easy way to visit us," Cruz said, adding that he is excited about his new position. "Coming from 30 years of law enforcement, this is a new area for me. Every new job is a challenge and I greet it with open arms."
Originally from Puerto Rico, Cruz has lived on St. Croix since 1958. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and attended the University of the Virgin Islands. He joined the military after high school and spent two years in Germany, after which he joined both the Police Department and the National Guard, which he retired from in 1994 with the rank of captain.
Divi Carina Bay is open seven days a week from noon to 4 a.m., Sunday through Thursday; and from noon to 6 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. The casino is operated by Treasure Bay V.I.
