Classes at Charlotte Amalie High School are canceled Wednesday for testing of air samples.
The school opened only a week ago after summer reconstruction and renovation projects fell behind schedule. The cancellation of classes will allow the Health Department's Division of Environmental Health to conduct testing to determine the source of noxious odors.
According to Education spokeswoman June Archibald, testing was ordered when
staff members complained Tuesday of strong odors being detected around various locations on the CAHS campus. Archibald said Director of Environmental Health Ethlyn Joseph placed air density plates throughout the schools where the foul odors were detected. The testing requires 24 hours to complete.
Results are expected by Wednesday afternoon, and it is anticipated classes will resume on Thursday. Archibald's statement did not describe the odor detected by the school's staff members.
