The UVI Summer Institute on African Humanities will host a free public lecture this evening, Friday, July 14 at 6 p.m. in the Chase Auditorium in the Business Administration building on UVI’s St. Thomas campus. The lecture is entitled, "Conflict and Intervention in the Horn of Africa." Renowned African scholars Ephrem Isaac, Bereket Habte-Silassie and Sidiga A. Rahim Washi will host the panel.
Silassie, who has lived in Eritrea, Ethiopia and the Sudan has written several books. He is currently the William E. Leuchtenburp professor of African Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Issac, an Ethiopian native, has lectured at Harvard University for many years. Currently, he is professor of African Studies and a faculty member at Princeton University. He is also involved in the Dead Sea Scrolls project.
Washi, of Sudanese nationality, is an associate professor at Ahfad University for Women, Ombdurman, Sudan. Currently, Washi is lecturing at King Saud University, College of Agriculture, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
