The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has a new location the World Wide Web. You can access it by clicking here.
The CFVI was established in 1990 with a $500,000 endowment. Since 1996, it has increased in size to almost $2 million, distributing grants, awards and scholarships across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. CFVI manages close to two dozen giving programs, administers scholarships and award programs, and coordinates the establishment of memorial funds.
Donors can make unrestricted contributions indicating a general field of interest such as the arts or education –or direct the foundations board to use its judgment for awarding the income.
The CFVI has just completed its fourth annual mini-grants competition for awards of up to $1,000 for programs or projects which address the needs of children, youth and families in the territory. Winners will be announced the second week of May. Currently, applications for the Anna Walsh and Theodore E. Sharp Scholars Grants and the Artrelle M. Wheatley Scholarship are available from CFVI. Deadline for submission is June 1, 2000.
The CFVI was created to serve both donors and nonprofit organizations of the Virgin Islands that want to ensure the highest quality of life for both present and future generations. Its primary goal is to build a growing collection of permanent funds, the income from which will be used to enhance the educational, physical, social, cultural and environmental well-being of the islands people.
