The Pre-Carnival Five Mile road race sponsored by the St Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR) was held at a windy Brewer's Bay at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.
An enthusiastic pack of 16 runners left Brewer's Bay and galloped over the hill, passing the University of the Virgin Islands and continuing on to the turn around point at the cargo dock at the airport, then heading back to the beach.
The first runner back over the hill was speedy Jean Pierre Bacle in a time of 33:08. Adam Thrill, of St John, was not far behind him at 33:43.
The third man over the finish line was Hank Slodden who passed several runners the last quarter mile.
The first woman runner was Charlotte Morris at 40:33. Christy O'Malley who was near Morris the whole race came in at 40:39. The third woman was Tamara Sruckey, of Colorado, in 43:01.
The next STAR event is the popular Carnival Mile. It will start at the
Western Cemetery at 7:30 on May 6.
