Gov. Charles Turnbull has granted administrative leave to non-essential government workers on four days in the next two weeks that are not official V.I. holidays.
Turnbull issued a proclamation Wednesday, Dec. 22, allowing the non-essential employees the day off on Dec. 24, Dec. 27, Dec. 31 and Jan. 7, 2000. Christmas Day, Christmas Second Day and New Year's Day are official holidays, but they fall on weekends this holiday season. Jan. 6, Three Kings Day, also a V.I. holiday, falls on a Thursday.
The governor noted that Dec. 31, New Years Eve, is also being observed as a federal holiday.
Friday, Jan. 7, is the day of the Childrens Parade at the Crucian Christmas Festival on St. Croix.
"Granting government employees administrative leave will encourage greater participation in the food fair and enhance the celebration of the Christmas Festival by all residents and visitors," Turnbull said.
Administrative leave does not apply to essential employees such as police and fire fighters; employees on a regular or rotating shift; and employees on annual or sick leave.
