Tropical depression number 16 has reached tropical storm strength and become Lenny.
At 5 pm Virgin Islands time, 2100z, the center of Tropical Storm Lenny was located near latitude 16.4 north, longitude 78.9 west or about 175 miles southwest of Kingston Jamaica. The storm is presently moving east at 6 miles per hour.
The National Hurricane Center predicts Tropical Storm Lenny will continue to move to the east and increase to a minimal hurricane tonight or Monday. Early predictions have Lenny passing over or near Puerto Rico in the next 72 hours.
Virgin Islands residents should be aware of the possibility of Lenny sneaking in the 'back door' and threatening the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.
