When the St. Thomas Women's Soccer Association met recently, they elected executive officers, accepted a constitution and introduced a new women's soccer league.
After months of intense practice, the skills and endurance of these players will be unveiled when the newly formed St. Thomas Women's Soccer League debuts on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. at the University of the Virgin Islands field.
Team members were coached by Glen Monticeux, Eudora Kean mathematics teacher, Donovan "John" Morgan, Sherm Clairmont and Clifton Williams, Charlotte Amalie High School physical education teacher.
The months of training will be evident when a total of five teams begin a ten- week schedule on weekends running from Oct. 10 until Dec. 11. Games will be held every weekend, alternating on Saturdays and Sundays.
Team members are from many different backgrounds and the common thread is the desire to learn the sport and, for some, to improve their skills.
Future plans for the association are to arrange inter-island games with St. Croix and St. John teams.
