BEE INFESTATION CLOSES LOCKHART SCHOOL

0

An infestation of honey bees caused Department of Education officials to close Lockhart Elementary School on Tuesday morning.
June Archibald, public relations director for the department, called Radio One's Sam Topp Show about 10:30 a.m. to alert parents of Lockhart students that their children were being released.
The school has been plagued with closings recently, starting with flooding during heavy rains earlier this month and continuing with teacher walkouts last week.
Archibald said exterminators were sent to the school as soon as officials learned of the bee problem.
There have been no reports of students being stung, according to Archibald, who couldn't immediately say how many students attended the Sugar Estate school.
