Due to heavy rains overnight and subsequent flooding, the Lockhart Elementary School will be closed Monday.
Ruby Simmonds, commissioner of the Education Department, told Radio One news early Monday morning that students in the Nadir/Bovoni area should delay starting out for school until high water in the roadway in that area subsides.
Simmonds also said students arriving late for classes would be excused due to the flooding in areas of the island.
Simmonds said that a similar evaluation was being conducted on St. Croix to determine the condition at schools there, but that all schools would be open as far as she knew.
She said updates would be forthcoming if conditions changed.
