CANCRYN STUDENTS GO HOME EARLY AGAIN

0

The streets in Charlotte Amalie were crowded with students at noontime on Monday, as Addelita Cancryn Junior High School students were sent home early for the third straight school day.
Teachers at Cancryn staged a sit-in Thursday to protest conditions at the school, exacerbated by a water shortage.
Due to problems with the desalination units at the Water and Power Authority, water could not be pumped through the potable water system. Potable water customers were on gravity feed, resulting in many locations on the system being without water.
Education commissioner designate Ruby Simmonds visited Addelita Cancryn Monday and said by Tuesday the school should be ready to handle a full day.
"There is no longer any stench from backed-up toilets," Simmonds said.
The school was closed at noon on Friday due to the water problems.
