Jan. 19, 2007 – Pistarckle Theater will hold a benefit performance on the opening night of the play "The Island" at 8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 26. Tickets for the performance are $30 with one-third of the proceeds being donated to the Family Resource Center Inc.
The purchase of one ticket will help the FRC give one night's protection to a victim looking for a place that is safe from violence and fear. Together we can make a difference in our community. To purchase tickets, call 776-3966.
"The Island" by Athol Fugard, directed by and starring Felix Fleming, director of last season's huge hit "Queen Coziah," returns with another provocative drama during Black History month.
The play, by South African Athol Fugard, creates a metaphor for apartheid through the story of two inmates incarcerated in South Africa's infamous Robben Island prison. The two prisoners spend their days working in a quarry and their nights rehearsing Sophocles' "Antigone" for the entertainment of the other prisoners. The play celebrates humanity and compassion during the fight for freedom and democracy in South Africa.
