Oct. 26, 2006 — St. Croix's West End was without electricity for more than three hours Thursday afternoon due to a blown fuse near the Estate Two Williams area. At approximately 2:30 p.m., area businesses and homes were forced to brave the mid-afternoon heat without fans and air conditioners.
V.I. Water and Power Authority spokesperson Cassandra Dunn said a burnt-out fuse near the Pastry Hut, in Frederiksted's Estate Two Williams, caused the outage.
The blown fuse affected Feeder No. 8, causing the area from the West Airport Road to Frederiksted town to be without power. Dunn said crews were alerted as soon as the power was interrupted.
While WAPA crews worked to restore power, residents patiently went about the rest of their day. "It is really no big deal, except it's hot, and I usually have my fan on," said West End resident Miriam Noble. "I just need to figure out what to cook tonight if the power does not come back on."
Power was restored at approximately 5:45 p.m.
