Oct. 16, 2006 – Mango Tango Art Gallery will host the second annual Fireworks Exhibition from 5:30-8:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 20. It will showcase fired ceramic pottery and sculpture by artists of the Caribbean, including entries of student, hobby, and professional ceramicists. Awards will be announced for those three divisions at the opening reception. At the opening, viewers can vote by ballot for the Peoples Choice Award.
The creators of the exhibit believe that a ceramics-only show, featuring both recognized and emerging artists, will help advance the art rather than the craft aspects of ceramics. Each year the show will be displayed at a different gallery, on different islands throughout the Caribbean. In the future, the Fireworks coordinators would like the show to also travel from island to island.
In addition to the Fireworks Network presenting awards with cash prizes based on decisions of three judges, there are two special honors. The creator of the Best Sculptural Work will receive $500 from the Ricardo and Josefina Charaf Purchase Award. The ceramicist who is judged to have designed the Best Vase will receive $500 from the Jim and Becky Tunick Purchase Award.
