May 14, 2007 — Water service on the East End will get interrupted from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday, and large water customers around the island should expect brief service disruptions Tuesday and Wednesday as new meters get installed.
During the East End service suspension, water personnel will install a 12-inch pressure-reducing valve at the Donoe Water Tank that will facilitate the use of a bypass pump station, according to a news release from the V.I. Water and Power Authority. Water crews will also take the opportunity to replace a defective 12-inch valve at Fort Mylner.
WAPA urges its customers to limit their water use on Wednesday after service is restored to allow naturally occurring particulates to settle in the distribution pipes.
"The Authority apologizes for any inconvenience that may occur as a result of these repairs and will make every effort to complete the work as soon as possible," the news release said.
Throughout each day Tuesday and Wednesday, water-meter supplier Metron-Farnier will upgrade large water customer meters, according to another WAPA news release. Company technicians expect water interruptions to last less than 15 minutes on one-inch meter installations and about 30 minutes on two-inch meter installations.
Every effort will be made to complete work at each site as quickly as possible. The Authority appreciates the patience of its large water customers during this service enhancement effort.
