April 26, 2007 — A territorywide voluntary recall of glacier mint and bubble blast flavors of Listerine Agent Cool Blue plaque-detecting rinse has been issued by McNeil-PPC Inc., manufacturer of Johnson & Johnson Caribbean products.
"Residents who may still have this product in their homes should discard it," acting Health Commissioner Phyllis L. Wallace said in a Health Department release issued Thursday.
The information about the recall was initially released by the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs.
Wallace said that officers from the Health Department's Environmental Health Division have been working territorywide with local vendors to remove the recalled products from store shelves if they find displays.
Dr. Rohanie Maharaj, director of Johnson & Johnson Caribbean, said in a notice to the Department of Health that his company had suspended sales of the aforementioned flavors of the plaque-rinse product.
Wallace said that residents should seek immediate care if they fall ill and to report any related illnesses to the department's Dr. Eugene Tull at (340) 773-1311, ext. 3241.
To date, however, there have been no adverse health conditions reported by consumers, Tull said.
Regarding the recalled products, Tull said, "There could be significant health risk to individuals with weakened or suppressed immune systems."
