Beacon Schools Holding Annual Golf Classic

Aug. 15, 2007 – Beacon Schools of the Virgin Islands Inc. will be holding an 11th Annual Golf Classic the weekend of Aug. 18-19, at Mahogany Run Golf Course on St. Thomas. As part of the weekend's events, Beacon will be sponsoring a basketball clinic on St. Thomas and a baseball clinic on St. Croix for the youth of the territory.
Both clinics will start with registration at 8:30 a.m., on St. Thomas, at the Mark C. Marin Center and on St. Croix, at the David C. Canageta Ball Park. Registration is open to middle and high school students, both male and female. There is no fee for the clinic. Lunch will be provided, and T-shirts are available to the first 50 registrants.
The basketball clinic will be run by Maurice Lucas, assistant coach with the Portland Trailblazers; Greg Ballard, assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks; and Joe Kleine of NBA champs, the Chicago Bulls. It will be run by MLB Hall of Famer Gary Carter; Jerry Royster, MLB player and coach, Jerry Royster; and member of the Cincinnati Hall of Fame, Ken Griffy Sr.
Additional players in attendance will include David Mobley, current PGA long ball champion; Ray Lamont, president of Golf USA; and Dan Quinn, recognized golf professional.
Beacon Schools is a non-profit (501C3) corporation that sponsors after school and community based learning centers on St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas. The Beacon Golf Tournament Week End Activities, including its auction and gala evening, provides approximately 35 percent of its annual funding.
