July 12, 2007 – Caribbean Community Theatre presents Parallel Lives, an adult comedy written by Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney, two of the funniest writer/performers of stage and screen. There are only two more performances of the show: 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14. All performances are at CCT, No. 18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted. Tickets are sold at the door and cost $15 for adults and $8 for students.
The play is directed by Eileen Bishop Des Jardins and features the comedic talents of 12 women: Anna Fish, Christina Gasperi, Michelle Greene, Melody Harris, Chahney Hinds, Charlene McGowan, Alix Myers, Starla Richter, Stephanie Scribner, Mariah Shabazz, Christine Thomas, and Claudette "Adjoa" Young-Hinds.
In the opening scene of the play, two Supreme Beings plan the beginning of the world with the relish of two slightly sadistic suburban wives decorating a living room. Once they've decided on the color scheme of the races, they create sex and the sexes. The audience is then whisked through an outrageous universe, where actresses play men and women struggling through the common rituals of modern life. With boundless humor, Parallel Lives examines the ins and outs of dating, marriage, plastic surgery, senior citizens, romance novel fantasies, and more
as handicapped by the whims of those capricious Supreme Beings.
"
a romp with a feminist sensibility; it's humor for a post-Lily Tomlin generation
Above all, Parallel Lives is a smart, provocative show." Variety
This is an adult comedy, not recommended for students under age 14.
