Many St. Croix Organizations and Government Offices Will Take Part in F.B.I. Seminar on Crimes Against Children

June 20, 2008 – The Virgin Islands Department of Justice together with the St. Croix Child Abuse and Neglect Task Force and the Women's Coalition of St. Croix is teaming up with the F.B.I. Headquarters Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) of Washington, D.C., to provide professional training to local law enforcement and other professionals who deal with crimes of abuse committed against children.
The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Tuesday, June 24 through Thursday, June 26, at the Almeric L. Christian Federal Building on St. Croix, according to a press release from the V.I. Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General.
The training will allow officials from CASA, St. Croix Child Abuse and Neglect Task Force, Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, Queen Louise Home for Children, V.I. Superior Court, Women's Coalition of St. Croix, U.S. Attorneys Office, U.S. Marshal Service, Office of the Attorney General, V.I. Police Department, and the V.I. Departments of Education, Health, and Human Services to further develop an island-wide capacity to provide rapid, effective and measured investigative response to unlawful acts involving children. The focus of the training seminar is on decreasing the vulnerability of children to sexual exploitation and enhancing the capabilities of federal and local law enforcement investigators through coordinated programs, investigative assistance and task force operations.
The three-day training agenda will include the following workshops: Behavioral Dynamics of Child Sex Offenders, Polygraph Interviewing Techniques, Forensic Child Interviews, Innocent Images – Sex Offenders Online, Crimes Against Children Unit, and Sexual Exploitation of Children Prosecution. Certificates will be issued upon completion of training.
