June 14, 2008 – Police on St. Thomas are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the territory’s latest homicide victim.
St. Thomas/St. John/ Water Island Police Chief Rodney Querrard Sr., on Saturday sent out a call to residents of Oswald Harris Court housing community and the surrounding areas, for anyone who has any information on a shooting that occurred between buildings 2 and 3 on Friday evening.
"If anyone has any information on this latest tragedy I urge you to call the police or tell someone who can pass the message on to police," Querrard said in a statement from the V.I. Police Department.
According to preliminary reports, on Friday night at approximately 7:50 p.m. a call came into 911 of "shots fired." Police units were immediately dispatched to the housing community where they found the unresponsive male victim who had been shot at least twice. When emergency medical personnel arrived, they pronounced the victim dead.
The unidentified man is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years-old, dark complexion, medium build with braided hair wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
Friday’s killing makes the fifth so far this year on St. Thomas. It is the territory’s 12th homicide.
As of the same time last year there had been 10 homicides on St. Thomas, 17 in the territory.
