April 17, 2008 — Vanity license plates commemorating the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute are now available at CKCIs Lynn Cohen Positive Appearance Boutique. The Schneider Regional Medical Center has been authorized by the Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles to distribute the plates as a means of raising funds for the cancer institute, as well as to make available to the public a unique gift or souvenir, according to Sam Topp, Medical Center spokesman.
In order to display the plates on vehicles, however, they must be registered officially with Motor Vehicles. The background for the decorative plates is the architecturally distinct Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute building, which houses the most modern, comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities in this region.
"People want the vanity plates for several reasons," said Donna Phillip, who
manages the appearance boutique. "For many, it is a way to support the cancer institute
at a level they can afford, while for others, the plates signify a positive medical outcome for that individual or a family member."
Those interested may select a preferred plate number, but are advised to have alternate choices in the event the desired number already has been sold, a release from SRMC said. The cost of a CKCI vanity plate is $40.00. The Lynn Cohen Positive Appearance Boutique is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is located on the lower level of the institute.
