March 5, 2008 – Sprint/Nextel congratulates James Richards Sr. for receiving its Excellence Award for 2007. In January, the Sprint/Nextel Telecommunications mainframe systems management team was challenged to find a way to reduce Sprint's presence in Charlotte EDS (Electronic Data Systems) Data Center to a point that would financially align with Sprint/Nextel contractual obligations.
Over the last 11 months the team has reduced the company's overhead by more than several 300 mainframe systems, 211 uplifts and 134 terabytes of system storage. This equates to a savings of $10.3 million in excess fees and $41.6 million in contract baseline fees over the next three years. Finally, the team succeeded in creating a detailed disentanglement strategy, which is projected to account for an additional $6-8 million dollars in savings for 2008.
Richards is an outstanding Virgin Islander and a huge credit to the Sprint/Nextel organization.
