Audiologist Sharon M. Berry Returns to the Territory

Feb. 22, 2008 — Sharon M. Berry, Au.D., CCC-A, a certified audiologist, has joined the staff at the V.I. Hearing and Balance Center, one of the specialty centers within V.I. Ear, Nose and Throat.
Bery works in conjunction with Dr. Adam Shapiro, audiologist, Judith Hirsch, and Kristin Hoopes, PA-C in evaluating, diagnosing and treating infants, children and adults with hearing and/or balance problems, according to a news release from the practice.
For 10 years Berry has work at the Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) in Washington, D.C., one of the top pediatric care and research facilities in the world. As the lead audiologist for the CNMC’s cochlear implant team, she gained extensive experience working with patients who may be candidates for cochlear implants, small, electronic devices that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing.
Berry also has experience working with conventional, digital and programmable hearing aids and is trained to identify and fit the appropriate solution for patient.
“We were fortunate to recruit Sharon back to the Virgin Islands from the renowned Children’s National Medical Center," Shapiro said, according to the release. "Her audiological expertise and broad experience with infants and children are essential components of our commitment to providing the highest quality care to pediatric and adult patients in the Virgin Islands. Sharon’s professionalism and exemplary people skills are a natural fit for our practice."
Berry holds a doctor of audiology degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, School of Audiology. She also holds a bachelor of arts in hearing and speech sciences and a master of arts in audiology from the University of Maryland. She received her certificate of clinical competence in audiology in 1997.
The V.I. Hearing and Balance Center is located in the Paragon Medical Building. Berry is now available for office visits, and appointments can be made between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To make an appointment, call 774-8881 or visit entvi.com.
