Jan. 10, 2008 — In a five-minute meeting, the St. John Coastal Zone Management Committee agreed to change the name on a CZM permit for a Hansen Bay subdivision.
Robert Carney, who is the project's developer, said that name change was required for refinancing purposes. "We needed the money for more concrete," he said.
The permit was issued on March 1, 2007 in the names of Carney and his wife, Karye Carney, as Flamboyant Reality Services Inc., to allow them to subdivide 75 acres at Hansen Bay into 31 lots, as well as build a road and install utilities.
Carney said that when he and the project's owners, Mark Davies and East End Limited St. John LLC, went to the bank for money to complete the concrete work on the road, the bank said they would only make the loan in the name of the actual owners, not the name on the permit.
Davies owns two parcels totaling nearly 60 acres. East End Limited owns 17.6 acres.
Carney said the lots will be sold as parcels, with the purchasers required to get the appropriate permits for their construction projects. The committee followed CZM staff recommendations and unanimously approved the name change.
